Katsina State Shuts Down Schools: Security Threats Force Temporary Closure

Katsina State Schools Closed: A Precautionary Measure Amid Security Concerns

The Katsina State Government has taken a bold step to ensure the safety of its students and teachers by ordering the closure of all public schools across the state. This decision comes in response to escalating security threats and banditry attacks reported in several communities, which have created an atmosphere of heightened anxiety among parents and authorities across the North-West.

According to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, the measure is a necessary precaution while security agencies implement a new statewide safety strategy for schools. He emphasized that protecting lives and property remains the top priority, even though students are currently writing examinations.

The shutdown is described as a temporary step that will remain in place pending a comprehensive security review of identified high-risk areas. The decision follows recent abductions of secondary school students in Kebbi and Niger States, which have further intensified concerns among parents and authorities.

Despite the closure, the state government assures citizens that normal academic activities will resume soon after security assessments are completed and adequate protection measures are put in place. This proactive approach highlights the government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens and maintaining a safe learning environment.
